The most important issue of the election is NOT the economy, although a recent poll I just saw said the economy is just that — the #1 concern of most Americans. Below, you will find a bulletproof, factual argument, that will hopefully cause you to filter your vote through facts (not rhetoric), and what God has already said — millions of lives hang in the balance, so read carefully.
Christians have a unique responsibility in this historic election — to show faith through their actions and to stand up and show your love for those who can’t defend themselves. As election day approaches, I am afraid Christians are asleep behind the wheel and they are voting with the New York Times in one hand, and their Bible in the closet.
The Russian, Marxist, totalitarian Joseph Stalin said “One death is a tragedy, a million dead is just a statistic.”
Too many evangelicals are Stalinists on abortion since the numbers apparently mean nothing to them.
This post is directed to people who claim the Bible is the most historically correct document in all of literature. Those who are aware of the fact that there is more manuscript evidence for the Bible than any other document in antiquity. People who base their lives on the historical fact that Jesus lived and walked the earth 2000 years ago, died and rose again through the immutable fact of the resurrection. People who know that TRUE Christianity is based on historical fact, not a “good feeling” or a supernatural experience — people who are aware that science and archaeology for centuries have affirmed things that have been in the Bible for thousands of years.
The abortion issue in this election will mean life or death for millions of unborn (and born) children over the next few years. I encourage Christians that when you vote, put the economy aside and consider the acres of tiny bloody corpses that you cannot see.
If you are a Christian, and hold to the tenants I mentioned above, then the outline below is an argument that can only be dismantled if you disagree with known facts. By the way, I don’t believe “the Bible says so” is an appropriate answer to any issue, so that is why I provide answers with verifiable proof.
1. According to the Bible, abortion is considered murder and God hates the shedding of innocent blood. (Proverbs 6:17) The Bible clearly condemns murder and especially the shedding of innocent blood - in fact, the shedding of innocent blood makes the Top 6 list of things God HATES.
2. According to common sense, recent scientific discoveries, and Biblical text, life begins at conception.
- Dr. Micheline Matthew-Roth, a principal research associate at Harvard Medical School’s Department of Medicine, puts it, ” It is scientifically correct to say that an individual human life begins at conception, when egg and sperm join to form the zygote, and this developing human always is a member of our species in all stages of its life.” 10
- French geneticist Jerome L. LeJeune bore eloquent testimony to the truth of Dr. Matthew-Roth’s remarks when he gave the following testimony to a United States Senate sub-committee: ” To accept the fact that after fertilization has taken place a new human has come into being is no longer a matter of taste or opinion. The human nature of the human being from conception to old age is not a metaphysical contention, it is plain experimental evidence.”
- Dr. Hymie Gordon, professor of medical genetics and a physician at the prestigious Mayo Clinic, best summarized the perspective of science when he said, ” I think we can now also say that the question of the beginning of life - when life begins - is no longer a question for theological or philosophical dispute. It is an established scientific fact. Theologians and philosophers may go on to debate the meaning of life or purpose of life, but it is an established fact that all life, including human life, begins at the moment of conception.
- In Psalm 51:5, David confesses that he was a sinner by nature from his very conception in the womb.
- In Psalm 139, it tells us that God knit us together in our mother’s womb.
2. Christians, especially younger Christians have been under the spell of “fetus fatigue” for a very long time. This concept was introduced by Douglas Groothuis, a professor of philosophy at Denver Seminary. He says that millions of evangelicals, especially young evangelicals, are experiencing fetus fatigue. They’re tired of the abortion issue taking center stage, so they’re moving unto newer, hipper things such as AIDS in Africa and the environment (both important issues but they should not “replace’ the abortion issue). Abortion has been legal now since 1973 —before they were born — and they feel it is the “old-guard’s” responsibility to stand up for the unborn.
I would argue that “fetus fatigue” is not just a syndrome experienced by younger Christians, I would say that ALL ages are guilty of this. Partly because abortion seems to be an uphill battle — and no one ever sees dead babies from abortion on the nightly news, so it is out of sight, out of mind.
3. Barack Obama, through the legistlation he supports and proposes, will increase the amount of abortions in the US over the next 4 years. If you analyze the promises Barack Obama has made on abortion, and his previous voting record, there is little debate to whether or not abortions will increase under his administration.
- Obama promised Planned Parenthood in 2007 (see video below) that the FIRST thing he would do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act, which would effectively lift the ban on partial-birth abortion. Think about it, Planned Parenthood makes BILLIONS aborting babies every year. Would they support a candidate who wants to restrict abortion? Of course not.
- For those of you who think the Freedom of Choice Act will not lift the partial abortion ban, you are mistaken. Just read Sen. Barbara Boxer’s (she introduced the bill so she should know) press release on what the FOCA will do “The FOCA also supersedes any law, regulation, or local ordinance that impinges on a woman’s right to choose.” (read Barbara Boxer’s Press Release on FOCA)
- Another main supporter of FOCA, Congressman Nadler issued a statement harshly attacking the Supreme Court ruling that backed the 2004 ban of partial-birth abortion enacted by the US Congress. “Overturning a decision only a few years old, the Court has, for the first time since Roe v. Wade, allowed an abortion procedure to be criminalized,” Nadler said. The FOCA, he noted, “would bar government at any level from interfering with a woman’s fundamental right to choose to bear a child, or to terminate a pregnancy.”
- “The Health Of The Mother” argument: President Clinton first used this excuse to veto the partial-birth abortion ban TWO times in the 1990s. His reasoning (which is the same reasoning Obama uses for saying the 2004 ban is unconstitutional), is that there is no clause for the “health of the mother.” This was left out because an inclusion would nullify the law — the “health” of the mother is established by the potential abortionist and it could mean that the mother has a migraine, or is depressed, so the ban could be avoided with this clause which is why it was not put in. Dr. Pamela Smith, Director of Medical Education in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Chicago, said, “There are absolutely no obstetrical situations encountered in this country which require a partially delivered human fetus to be destroyed to preserve the life of the mother.” When Clinton vetoed the partial-birth ban in 1995, the incredibly grotesque procedure called partial-birth abortion was allowed for another 10 YEARS — allowing the painful, despicable, deaths of untold amount of babies in this manner. If you would like to see illustrations of how partial-birth abortion works go here.
- The Born Alive Infant Protection Act: This Act simply requires that when a baby survives an attempted abortion, further attempts to abort the baby must immediately cease. Sounds like common sense right? While serving in the Illinois state senate, Obama led the fight against a state version of Born Alive that was substantively identical to the federal BAIPA. In 2002, BAIPA passed the U.S. Senate with unanimous, bipartisan support; yet, Obama vehemently opposed its Illinois twin. In 2004 Obama was criticized for his complicity in facilitating infanticide. Obama denied it, but recently the National Right To Life Committee uncovered the truth and Obama was forced to admit that they had lied and tried to cover it up. (see the documentary evidence here). Listen to the video below that has Obama arguing before the Ilinois legislature in April 2002 complaining that providing care to these accidentally born infants would place an undue burden on the woman and her abortionist.
To see the summary of what he said without the video go here.
- Taxpayer Funding of Abortion (do you believe as a Christian your tax money should go towards paying for abortion? Well, it does): Obama voted against legislation in the Illinois Senate that prohibited taxpayer dollars from being used to pay for abortion. His campaign said they do NOT support the Hyde Amendment that prohibits taxpayer funding of abortion through Medicaid.
- Parental Notification Law: Obama voted to block a bill that would have required an abortionist to notify at least one parent before performing an abortion on a minor girl from another state.
- Obama told a Pennsylvania audience that if his own daughters experienced an unexpected teen pregnancy, he wouldn’t want them “punished with a baby.” (see video below)
- Michelle Obama, in a letter from 2004, called partial birth abortion a “legitimate procedure”, and that the ban (although confirmed by the Supreme Court) was unconstitutional.
- Obama could potentially appoint three Supreme Court justices during his term, which will obviously be pro-choice. These new justices will take Roe v Wade to the next level. Remember, the partial-birth abortion ban signed by Congress and supported by President Bush in 2004 was the biggest step against Roe v Wade in 34 years. When the Supreme Court affirmed the law shortly after, it gained serious traction. Most people don’t know that one of the reasons why it was affirmed in the Supreme Court was because of the recent Bush appointment of Samuel A. Alito. In another 5-to-4 decision seven years ago, his predecessor, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, voted to strike down a similar state law. So if you don’t think Supreme Court appointments will affect abortion, you are wrong.
- If that wasn’t enough proof for you, read this article by Robert P. George, McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence and Director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University — and you will see that I haven’t even touched the surface exposing Obama’s extreme abortion views. Also, here is another article that shows how Obama distorted his view on abortion in the third debate.
Obama goes beyond even what most liberals are comfortable with when it comes to abortion. However, that it is not the message that comes out in the media — Obama, in his eloquence, easily pushed this issue to the side and no one ever made him clarify anything during the campaign.
Professor Groothius concludes, “For God’s sake evangelicals wake up; remember the least, the last, the lost, the millions of unborn human beings whose lives hang in the balance. This is not the only issue of moral significance, but it is a titanic issue that cannot be ignored. Rouse yourself to recover from fetus fatigue. God is watching and waiting even as the blood of the innocent unborn cries out from the ground.”
Many of you know my passion for unborn babies. On our crisis pregnancy site that helps people with unplanned pregnancies, I got an email from a 16 year old girl today and she said she found out she was pregnant and that her mom said she was going to force her to get an abortion — I get these types of emails all the time and it is proof that Roe v Wade has gone FAR beyond women’s rights, if abortion was illegal, this mother could not force her child to get an abortion — and I believe it would cause people to be more careful about having unprotected sex, because the ‘easy way out” would not be available.
If abortion is about “women’s rights” then who is protecting the rights of this 16 year old young woman mentioned above? Who is protecting the rights of the unborn females whose lives are terminated before they even have a chance to live. Or who was protecting Gianna Jessen’s rights, when she survived an abortion? If you haven’t heard her story, watch this Youtube video.
For those of you who think I am judgmental of Barack Obama, you are wrong. In fact, I am probably worse than him when it comes to abortion. 14 years ago, I convinced my wife (then girlfriend) to abort our first child. Through that despicable act, I realized the reality of the amazing grace shown to us by God through the historical Jesus Christ. Since then I have made it my mission to protect the unborn and to make people aware that abortion is not a “quick fix” to anything. It is like throwing gas on a fire, and it will effect you until the day you die. You can see our story on our unplanned pregnancy site.
So Christians, wake up — your vote for Barack Obama will seal the fate of millions of babies over the next several years — and now you are aware of this. You can try to justify it, make excuses, or do whatever you want to conceal the truth, but the bottom line is that everyone, believer or not, will face God one day and have to justify their actions to Him. What will you say to Him on your choice in this historic election? Will you tell Him, “Yeah but I needed a job and and our economy was in shambles, so we needed a major change.”?
I hope Christians stand up for those little ones that are so precious to God, I hope the people who proclaim the truth of the Bible defend the defenseless on November 4th. I truly hope that Christians will cast their vote with the Bible in one hand and the Holy Spirit in their ear.

You are right Kaylee, a lot of my posts were done on the fly in an effort to get them out before the election, but you are right, I will add that to the mission statement on the right. Thanks for reading!
